Find your core values

We are now in WEEK 2 of Rebooting your life, well done for completing last week’s action steps! This week’s topic of ‘Lift Your Life’ is focused on determining your values and giving them a reboot.

Any feedback? Please post underneath this week’s blog and I will respond!

By now you will have:
– Completed the exercise from last week’s blog in creating your goals.
– A clear action plan to keep you on track to reach those goals
– A crystal clear vision on why you want these goals.
– If you have not yet done last week’s blog please do so before you move on to this week.

Once you are clear on your goals, it’s important to identify your VALUES. Being clear on your values determines the quality of your life. It’s that simple. Where and how you focus attention and energy into areas that are important to you in your life will attract powerful results, if you know what you value.

Living in agreement with your values is fulfilling; living in conflict with your values is stressful and dissatisfying. That’s why it is so important to clearly understand your own personal code of values. Your happiness depends upon not just knowing your values, but living in accordance with them.

Stress does not result from hard work, long hours or multiple roles in life. Stress results from values conflicts. When put in a situation where you are unable to honour your core value, you will feel stressed out. No amount of relaxation, meditation or exercise will eliminate the stress until the values conflict is resolved.

Most people just get by; they live within their so-called comfort zones. They attempt to just fulfill their immediate needs and wants. They may experience frustration, and function at a level of desperation, not inspiration. They do not love what they do, nor do they do what they love, nor do they let their inspirations run their lives. They end up envying, imitating and living their lives with other people’s ‘shoulds’, ‘supposed-tos’ and ‘ought-tos’ or they end up attempting to get others to live lives according to their own ‘shoulds’, ‘supposed-tos’ and ‘ought-tos’.

The level of your values and the hierarchy you determine for these values in your life dictates where you will be in power or overpowered.

And any area of your life in which you don’t empower yourself, someone else will overpower you.

COMPLETE STEP 1. “DETERMINING YOUR LIFE VALUES”

Here is a list of some values and needs that may be relevant to you. Read it and identify the needs and values that are important to you in each of the two or three areas of life you want to work on changing.

Write down up to seven needs, and for each check whether these needs are met Always, Often, Sometimes, Seldom or Never’. Rank from 1 to 7 the relative importance you place on each need or value.

You need to make sure that your most important core values are expressed and supported in your life. If they are not being met, what can you do so you feel these are being expressed in your life:
